South Fork, CO., Thursday, 07/10/24

I left Princeton, TX on Sunday the 29th. My time wasn’t up for another two days, but I like to drive on Sundays because the traffic is usually pretty light. I knew getting out of Texas was going to be a pain because of all the construction going on.

My first stop was a KOA campground in Lubbock, TX on Sunday night.

Hours of lots of nothing and hardly any traffic. I’m glad that I decided to avoid all interstates and just travel back roads. It was very relaxing.

I wish I had stopped more to take photos, especially going through the Grand Canyon and passing by the Earthship Project. I’ll do that on my way back. I was just trying to get to cooler weather and be comfortable.

I stopped at another tiny campground and boondocked for the night. The weather was getting cooler, especially at night, so staying the night without electricity was no problem, and I didn’t need to keep the van running for the air conditioning.

I made it to Creede, CO on Tuesday afternoon.

I didn’t stay long. It was hard to find parking, and it was way too crowded for me. Lots of shops. Many restaurants that I don’t eat at. Bakeries and ice cream shops. I decided to go back down about 15 miles to South Fork and find a place to stay for a while.

I stopped at the Silver Thread Basecamp and was lucky they just had a cancellation. I’m signed up for 30 days and am probably going to stay another 30 days if the weather keeps staying cool during the night. Usually, it will get down to 50 degrees or below. During the day, it might get up to between 79 and 83 with low humidity. I can live with that. 🙂

This is the laundry. It’s two bucks a load.

There is plenty of room and no close neighbors.

This is a block away from where I am parked, right on the Rio Grande.

I absolutely love it here!!

The water is so clear!!

Sunday morning, I went grocery shopping. I went to a Safeway in Monte Vista that had T-Bone steaks on sale for $6.97 a pound and stocked up. It was 30 minutes away. Then I stopped by Walmart in Alamosa, which was another 30 minutes away. It’s weird not to have a Walmart only 15 minutes down the road.

I did a lot of reading in the late evening for the first couple of days. Even though I had the campground’s Wi-Fi, my phone, and the Sienna’s AT&T to use, they kept on dropping the connection every few minutes. Updating this blog was just impossible. Even Facebook was pretty iffy.

I finally bit the bullet and ordered a Starlink Mini, which arrived this past Monday. So far I’m loving it!! It is super fast, and no more dropped connections.

At first, I thought I would have to keep the dish outside. It does come with a super long cord. It turns out it works just fine sitting on the inside of Ms Pearl’s dash. When I’m on my way back down to Texas, I will pause the service since I don’t have any issues down there.

It’s day 604 of not eating any grains, seed oils, sugar, fruit, or vegetables. I’m still feeling great and am full of energy. I sleep like a baby and get up ready to go without any aches or pains. Life is good. NBD’s
