Since today is one of the rare days that I have completely off from work, I started on a project that I’ve been wanting to do for years. Removing this butt awful carpet, that’s been in the living room since 1974, I think.
I’ve been putting it off over the years because this room was always full of furniture and I really didn’t know what to do with them while I was getting the carpet out. Now that I don’t have that much in the way of furniture, seemed like it’s a good a time as any to tackle this job.
Since I’m by myself, I decided to cut the carpet in sections, roll it up, duct tape it, and move it outside for trash pickup tomorrow.
It was pretty nasty. The carpet cut really easy and was dry rotted in places. The padding was paper thin and stuck to the concrete in spots.
I don’t know what possessed me to think that the concrete underneath would be in a uniform color. It was stained and painted in some spots. I’ll have to read up on how to prepare this concrete slab for painting.
Then there is this 1/2 inch space along the walls that I need to fill in. I don’t know what to do about the nails. When I tried to pull them out, chunks of concrete broke off. I tried to drive the nails in all the way, but couldn’t. I might need to get a bigger hammer.
Taddaaa!! Good bye and good riddens!!
I covered the concrete up as much as I could with the rugs that I had. Not too bad for right now, until I get ready to paint it. I’m waiting for a couple of warm days were I can keep the windows and doors open while I paint.
I took my little green house out of the kitchen and into the back yard. Nice to have the kitchen back.
Hopefully the wind won’t knock it down!
It’s 6 PM and I’m done for today. Fixed myself a nice cup of coffee and sat out in the front yard for a bit. Couldn’t resist taking a photo of my little visitor.
It was pretty funny how he let me take the photos….taking a few steps, looking at me…taking a few more steps….looking back at me. It was like he was posing for me. 🙂
Kymber…I knew as soon as I posted this, you would have an answer for me. You are awesome!!! I went to Lowe's and found one for 30 bucks. Will purchase it in a few weeks. I was kind of hoping that there would be an attachment for my cordless drill that would do the job. 😦 Looks like the attachments would cost about the same. The greenhouse seems to be okay as it is. We had 30+ miles winds in the last 24 hours and it seems to be in a stable place, shielded by the shed, the townhouse and the fence.Love the birds too….except when the shit sideways on my car.Happy belated easter to you too. :)Hugs,Tango
gurl – i can understand wanting to get rid of that carpet – but man do you like to make work for yourself. as for those nasty nails – jambaloney says get an angle grinder with a cut-off wheel – you should be able to find one on sale somewhere for $25-$30 and he says that they are useful for other jobs too, like clearing lumber of nails, cutting metal and plastic, grinding off rust, etc. as for the greenhouse – tie it to something using rope or bungee cords or whatnot. and i love the little robin posing for his pic. we get tons of birds in our front yard at our several feeders and we love watching them all day long.happy belated easter day!your friend,kymber/xox
