Remembering why I don’t take assignments east of my home

I usually don’t take them because of the traffic, but for some reason I did accept two commercial inspections that would take me into Fairfax county.
Yesterday morning I was on my way….only 22 miles.  Figuring that there would be less of a slow down on Rt. 29, I headed that way and passed up I-66 west.  I was about two miles down on 29 when traffic came to a stop…due to I don’t know what.  Whatever!! So I cut across the median to head back to get on 66.
About two miles down 66, traffic come to a stop.  WTF?  I ended up taking me a little over 2 hours to get to where I had to go.
The time passed quickly mainly due to a Tyson’s Chicken baby chick bus.

I could see the baby chicks stuffed into trays sitting on top of each other.

I spent the next hour wondering:
Are those chicks shitting on top of each other?
How are they getting water….or are they?
Will they get to their destination before it gets hot?
How many stacks of trays are on the bus?
Where are they going?
What will happen to them once they get to wherever they are going?
When did Tyson get into the chick business?
Have they already been shot up with growth hormones and antibiotics?

  1. Thanks Guy. I knew I could count on you to de-wonder me! :)Funny….a year ago I wouldn't even have paid attention to that bus. In many ways ignorance IS bliss, but on the other hand if I didn't know what I know now, I would not have made all these drastic changes and I would not be feeling as great as I do now.

  3. I'll answer for you the best I can:There is probably some vents in the bottoms of the trays, too small for most shit to get through, but yes, chickens shit on one another. They probably don't have water, but chickens are mailed all the time and have no problem surviving three days in a box.The van more than likely has Air conditioning and ventilation. They are going to a factory farm. They will be let loose in a giant pole barn structure with a dirt floor which will quickly fill with shit. They will roam about freely, but will never see the outdoors or day light.Tyson is in the meat business. No, but that's what they will be fed. Worse yet they have been genetically altered to grow large breasts. So much so that within a month their legs will no longer be able to support them. Their life expectancy is less than six months. If they aren't culled by then they will more than likely die from heart failure.
